Team: We’re a store-director-led organization, which means the people doing the work participate in customer-related decisions. That brings real experience, ownership, and pride to every job.

Every decision we make has to pass our 3-way test:

Is it good for our people?
Is it good for our company?

If it doesn’t meet all three, we don’t do it.

How It All Started

Our founder, John Peveto Jr., got his start in the restaurant business, where he learned the importance of service, cleanliness, and customer experience.

In 1968, he took over a struggling brake shop in San Antonio and turned it around by doing things differently:

Offering free inspections (long before it was common)
Keeping shops clean and welcoming
Taking the time to educate customers, not pressure them

That approach quickly earned trust and fueled growth.

From One Shop to a Texas Staple

1970s: Acquired and rebranded multiple locations under the name Brake Check
1980s–2000s: Expanded into Austin, Corpus Christi and Houston while refining service, quality, and team culture
2007: Added oil changes to better serve everyday maintenance needs
2010s: Developed our own line of high-quality parts (Opteve) to deliver better performance and even greater value
2020: Introduced digital inspections through our AutoFAIRency approach —highlighting our fair pricing and transparency at every visit
2023: Added tires as a core service
2025-26: Rebranded to Brake and Tire Check
